Some people have eyelids that are not in
proportion with their size of eyes. There might be loose and saggy skin on the
eyelids that appears odd. To amend this issue, eyelid surgery can be the best solution. This
surgery can be performed on upper lid, lower lid or on both. This cosmetic
surgery is known as blepharoplasty and it improves the aesthetic appearance of
eyelids. This can resolve functional issues of eyelids as well.
Blepharoplasty
surgeon designs a surgical process according to
specific requirements of each patient. The surgical procedure may involve
removing fat deposits below eyes, removal of fine lines and wrinkles, give
proper shape to eyelids, removal of excess saggy skin from eyelids etc.
To initiate blepharoplasty surgery, surgeons usually use intravenous sedation
of general anesthesia for comfort of patient during the surgery. The choice of
process depends on the anesthesia specialist. Surgeons design incision lines on
eyelids so that the scars can be easily concealed in natural structure of
eyelids. Usually these incisions allow surgeons to remove or reposition fat
deposits, tightening of muscles and removal of excess skin. For similar
processes for lower eyelids incision can be made just below the lower lash
line. They can even choose to make incision through inside of lower eyelid.
They can remove or reposition fat deposits, however removal of excess skin
would not be possible through this incision.
Sutures or skin gloves for these
incisions are usually removed after a week and patients can see results of the
surgery. Usually it doesn’t require too long for recovery after this surgery
and patients can return to their normal life within a week or two.
Average eyelid surgery cost would be excluding charges for anesthesia and
charges for surgical equipment and use of hospital facilities. This varies
according to different circumstances. Surgeon’s fee depends on his experience,
type of procedure used for surgery and geographical location of his office as
well.
